We are organising a charity walk on Saturday 29th September from the Park Tavern in Macclesfield through to The Vale Inn in Bollington and then over to the Cask Tavern in Poynton.
Total walk of roughly 10.5 miles (16.8K) taking about 4 hours gentle walking. A Walk to the Cask is a celebration of lots of things; the three excellent pubs in the Bollington Brewing Company's stable, the beautiful Cheshire countryside that surrounds them, the rambling and hiking community that enjoys them and Cask Tavern manager Tim's recent conquering of the Bullock Smithy Hike; 56 miles in 23 hours.
More importantly, however, it's to raise money for a family local to Poynton.
Ollie's Army was set up to help Ollie and Amelia Carroll, two young children with Batten Disease, a neurodegenerative and incurable illness that has so far rendered Ollie blind and unable to walk or communicate.
The treatment that is helping to slow down the symptoms of Ollie, Amelia and other children with Battens is not available on the NHS. Any money raised will help to fund the campaign to change this, it will also support the family financially in their frequent trips to hospital in London, in providing as full a life as possible for the children, and to help fund research into and raising awareness of Batten disease.
The walk itself will leave the Park Tavern at 11am after we've had coffee and cake and completed registration. We will walk roughly 5 miles to the Vale Inn where bacon butties (or veggie alternative) will be provided ready for the final 6 miles to the Cask Tavern in Poynton where there will be enough food for a hungry walker!!
The ticket includes a pint of fine Bollington beer at the venue of your choice.
